7 budget-friendly ways to spoil your mum this Mother’s Day

If you have a mum or carer that you’d like to do something special for on Mother’s Day, then the challenge is doing something that’s different to usual but that doesn’t break the bank. We have compiled a list of a few low-cost ideas that will spoil her without putting too much financial pressure on you.

A low cost meal

You don’t have to splash out on a meal at a posh restaurant to make your mum feel special. How about offering to turn up at her place and make dinner for her whilst she relaxes with a drink or has a bath? Alternatively, invite her over to your place for dinner. Light candles and put on some background music for that special feel. Meal deals at some of the supermarkets can really help save on cost too, such as Tesco’s Finest meal deal for two which offers a main, side, pudding and a choice of wine or soft drink for £12. Alternatively check out others including Morrisons, Asda, Waitrose and M&S.

Normalise thrift store or second hand gifts

Many people have started including thrift store finds in birthday and Christmas gift-giving. The process is as much fun as the giving. Give yourself some time to trawl various charity shops and second-hand stores or car-boot sales. As long as the treasures you find are in good shape, then can gift great books, art, kitchenwares, board games and other trinkets for much less than you’d spend to buy them new.

At b.kinda we have the perfect way to give your mum the gift of pre-loved by ordering her one of our mystery boxes for £15. Just fill-in the details about size and colour preferences and the address that you need it sent to and you’ll be able to give her not one, but four presents in one box!

Take on some tasks around the house or clean her car

Let’s face it – we probably all try to be of use to others as much as we can, but time can run away with us and we may not be able to dedicate as much time as we can. Offering to give time to your mum and take on tasks that she hasn’t been able to do, could be a great way of showing how much you care. Everything from steam cleaning furniture, to fixing a drawer, re-painting a room or even cleaning the car.

Movie marathon

Sometimes it’s just great to snuggle up and share some time in from of the fire or under a blanket on the sofae. How about a movie marathon? If you choose to watch a franchise all the way through then here are some ideas: The Hungers Games, The x-men series, Harry Potter, The Alien Franchise, Star Trek, Mission Impossible, James Bond, The Middle Earth series…and more!

DIY spa day

We harbour many ingredients in our cupboards that can be turned into things that will help our skin and boost our wellness. Firstly, it wouldn’t be a DIY spa day without some fancy water to stay hydrated: slice up some cucumbers, lemons and oranges and add them to a jug of water.  Be sure to leave a few extra cucumber slices out to put on your eyes for a true spa day feel.

To open up your pores and get the most out of the homemade face mask you’re going to make for the two of you, steam your face by running a towel under warm water and drape it around your face for five minutes over a steaming bowl of water. For the homemade face mask, mix avocado, honey and apple-cider vinegar in a food processor until smooth. Apply a thin layer to clean, damp skin. Let dry, then rinse off and moisturise as desired.

Make a cucumber and mint body scrub to exfoliate your bodies by adding chopped cucumber with fresh mint leaves, granulated sugar and raw virgin coconut oil. Mash it all together (melt the oil) and apply to clean, damp skin using circular motions to exfoliate the skin. Rinse off completely, then towel dry.

Look for some special offers

There are special offers to be found all over the place. Wowcher and Groupon can often give you some good ideas with great savings. There’s no shame in finding some great special offers in order to lower the cost of a special treat for your mum. Moonpig always has incredible discounts for their Mother’s Day promotions so we advise that you keep an eye on their website. They are currently offering 40% off your first order with the app so we recommend heading to the App Store to claim this amazing discount just in time for the big day! For food, find a friend that subscribes to Hello Fresh and claim a free box. Dance together

There’s nothing like great music to lift your spirits. Whatever you decide to do, why not combine it with a good dance in the kitchen. Put on a combination of music for both you and your mum and dance your socks off. Why not take a lot of photos in the process to solidity those memories.
